Systems Administrator (Windows, Linux, Mac)

Redtech is helping our client with a Contractor search for a Systems Administrator with experience in a mixed environment.

Length: 3-6 month contract, with possible extension and/or conversion to hire
Location: Hybrid – After initial onsite on-boarding and training will be 3 days onsite/2 days remote
Schedule:  Core hou
rs are 9-3 (meaning everyone is available). The daily schedule is business hours to be arranged with the hiring manager
              •            The schedule depends on skill set at Tier 3 support and their ability to work independently
•            We usually have a SA on-site each day, with them overlapping on Mondays.
•            The schedule is flexible, but the candidate will be expected to work with already established schedules of the team

Compensation Range: $58-68/hr W-2
Pay offered to a successful candidate will be based on several factors including the candidate's education, work experience, work location, specific job duties, certifications, etc.

The Systems Administrator (SA) is a crucial component of our team that provides support, maintenance, and planning for our extensive IT environment. In this role, you will work closely in support of the Database Development and Technical teams while providing tier 3 support to the Service Desk team. The SA builds, monitors, and manages change-updates of all IT systems. The SA represents the interests of the department with central IT on security, AD structure changes, facilities technology, backup service management, and University IT policy management. The SA contributes to Unit IT policy management and enforces quality standards.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
 
Operations – Day-to-day support at Tier 3 (40%)
1. Evaluate, understand, and select amongst technical tradeoffs to engineer and IT solutions from hardware acquisition to production operations.
2. Establish and maintain system documentation to support multiple systems in a demanding environment.
3. Act as tier 3 subject matter expert support for the service desk. Maintain and support servers, desktop applications (physical and virtual), printers, and facility technologies. Identifies issues and resolves hardware and software problems through an appropriate course of action by using and establishing policies and procedures. Create and maintain system documentation, operational procedures, architectural documentation, and hardware/software inventory.
4. Strong Customer Service and Problem-Solving Skills
5. Managing push patches to the server, test, and user environments regularly
6. Supporting multiple environments (Dev, Test, and Production)
7. Promote and enforce healthy cyber security practices
8. Manage RedHat and Nutanix Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI)

Maintenance – Monitor, maintain, improve, and document (30%)
9. Maintain server infrastructure, including server hardware and software assembly, and implement essential network services. Install, perform necessary upgrades, and configure network printing, active directory structures, rights, security configurations, software installation, file/directory access services, storage, and hyper-converged systems.
10. Member of on-call team for critical events, which could require 24x7 after hour's on-site response
11. Manage 3rd party integrations and support services for POS, Card office, and authentication tools
12. Install, configure and maintain multiple servers that support vendor and custom applications and system services used by staff and students at numerous locations throughout campus.

Administration – Supporting active applications and projects (30%)
13. System administration for multiple systems implementing Microsoft, Linux, and Mac operating systems, including multiple operating systems, files, data, and web servers, supports department concerns.
14. Manage the NAS system, data backup, and disaster recovery process
15. Conceptualize, implement, and support the specific implementation of industry-standard technologies.
16. Provide high-level technical expertise in designing, purchasing, and implementing system architecture, including purchasing new system hardware and software.
17. Responsible for security administration, disaster recovery, and security management applications and access controls (Citrix, Firewalls, Remote Desktop, etc.)
18. Act as primary liaison between Dept IT and Main IT services
19. Other duties as assigned
 
 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Five years of system administration experience within heterogeneous (Microsoft, Linux, and supporting Mac OS) networked environment 
2. Proven experience with enterprise applications and hypervisors - virtualization
3. NUTANIX or RHV Other Hyper-Converged Infrastructure installation and setup and administration
4. Experience with Shibboleth or other federated software packages to allow single sign-on
5. Scripting experience (especially TSQL and PowerShell)
6. System management applications (Examples: SCCM, Solarwinds SEM & ORION, Acronis, vSphere, etc.)
7. Experience with setup and maintenance of the server, storage, backup, networking, and HCI solutions
8. Basic Networking (TCP/IP, DNS, Certificates, Routing, Sub-netting)
9. Bachelor of Science degree in computer science or equivalent experience
10. Self-starter and curious
 
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. HCI Virtualization Certification VMWare, NUTANIX, CISCO, DELL or HPE
2. CITRIX Certified Professional (Nice to have)
3. Relevant certifications (MCP, CCNA, MCSE, etc.)
4. AZURE or AWS cloud administrator (Nice to have)
